Kyle Bachinski, of Western Springs, will join the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy this fall.

WESTERN SPRINGS – While many high school students are now celebrating the beginning of summer, 15-year-old Kyle Bachinski closed out his freshman year at Lyons Township High School with a different celebration in mind.

Bachinski, a Western Springs resident, was recently accepted into the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy as a part of the class of 2017 for this coming fall.

IMSA, a school in Aurora, accepted 214 students for the fall, according to Bachinski. He said the students live at the school during the week and return home on the weekends.

"You get to know all the people there, but at LT there's thousands of people in the hall and I really didn't know any of them," he said.

The application process included multiple tests and taking the SATs, according to Bachinski, who said waiting to be accepted was a bit stressful.

While the soon to be sophomore in high school said he's going to miss his friends and Lacrosse at LT, he's looking forward to IMSA's math team, science olympians and more clubs.

"It's really cool that I'm going to be going to a school filled with other kids who have the same interests as me," Bachinski said.
