Hillcrest student Axel Thornton enjoy climbing on the playground May 22. Margaret Chaidez is leading a crowdfunding effort to replace the current playground at Hillcrest school with an all-inclusive playground

Thumbs up to Hillcrest Elementary School parent Margaret Chaidez, who recently began a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a playground that can be used by children with physical limitations and those without. Chaidez – who has organized drives to raise money in the last year and a half – has set a monetary goal of $450,000. An all-inclusive playground is something that could be utilized by children from all the surrounding communities, and we wish Chaidez the best of luck with the crowdfunding campaign.

Congratulations and good luck to local Special Olympians Christina Schutz and Jeff Osowski, who will travel to New Jersey to compete in the USA Games on June 15. Schutz, a Downers Grove South alumna and a volleyball ace, will compete in a variety of sports while Downers Grove resident Osowski has set his sights on the national golf competition. We know these two local athletes will make their family, friends and community very proud.
