Lockport Wind Symphony named ‘state champ’

LOCKPORT – Only the finest concert bands in Illinois are selected to perform each year at the University of Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival, widely recognized as the state championship because of the arduous audition process via submission of recordings to a national panel of judges.

Bands throughout the state applied for this competitive and prestigious opportunity to perform in the Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in May, with only 7 Class AAAA (2,500-plus student enrollment) bands selected to perform.

The Lockport Wind Symphony has proven its elite status by performing at this festival for the past 10 consecutive years, and this year was selected for its second time as the Class “Honor Band” and granted an exhibition performance for the 2015 festival as the returning State Champion.

The Concert Band State Championship is the program’s second of the year as it falls on the heels of the Class Championship for Marching Band this past fall. Students were officially presented last week with the plaque signifying them as a NBA Blue Ribbon National Winner received earlier this year.
