Addison Trail junior outside hitter Alex Dickmann showed why he is one of the most respected hitters in the state in Wednesday's regional championship match against Glenbard North. Dickmann had 14 kills, including five in the match's final nine points, to propel AT to a 15-25, 25-22, 25-15 victory. Dickmann, this week's Oak Trust Credit Union Athlete of the Week, talked with Suburban Life sports reporter Dan Santaromita about the win and the upcoming sectional semifinal against Lake Park.
What do you think was the reason for the team's slow start?
It was just a nerve-wrecking start knowing that was one of the teams that we got upset by, but once we got our gameplan down we were able to turn it around. We had this team scouted down to the bone because of our coaches, so we knew what they were going to run when they ran it.
What does it mean to you to win a regional title?
It's my second year winning a regional so it feels just as good as the first one. A lot of hard work and dedication went into it and we came out on top.
What do you know about Lake Park for the next match?
I played their club team before with my club and they actually beat us so I already know what they have. It's going to be tough to beat them because they are a good team, but if we bring our 'A' game we definitely have a chance to beat them.
