The Bolingbrook Park District mission statement is pretty straightforward: “To provide world-class park and recreation services in a fiscally responsible manner to enhance the community’s quality of life.”

To that end, we search out all options when it comes to providing low-cost, or even better, free, events and programs for the community. This summer, thanks to our partnership with Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, we’re able to deliver more free fun than ever before. Get your calendars out and get ready for some fun in the ‘Brook.

Movie Nights return for their second year, starting June 5 with "Despicable Me 2" at the Village of Bolingbrook’s Performing Arts Center. "Frozen" runs on July 10 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, and "The Lego Movie" concludes the series July 28 at Bulldog Park. All show times are at 8 p.m.

The Summer Concert series returns to the Village Performing Arts Center stage on June 11 with Just South of Heaven. Concerts run weekly every Wednesday through July 16. See the website for complete band listings. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m.

Visit Your Local Park brings trackless train rides, the portable climbing wall, the Fountaindale Public Library Bookmobile and more to a park near you starting June 6. Times and locations vary, so see www.bolingbrookparks.org for current details.

Summer’s Last Blast, our end of the season celebration, runs Saturday, Aug. 23 from noon to dusk. A wide variety of outdoor entertainment, evening concert, and fabulous fireworks make this yearly event a highlight of any summer. Optional events that carry a fee include reduced rate swimming at Pelican Harbor and the popular Parkie’s 5K Run.

Through these events, and more in the future, we strive to meet the words of our mission statement and enhance our community’s quality of life.

Come on out and see us this summer, and remember, Bolingbrook Park District is Where the Fun Is!
