Brookfield, La Grange residents involved with 28th annual Scottish Festival in Itasca

LA GRANGE – Two area residents will be participating in this year's 28th annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games.

Jackie Torrance, of La Grange, and Bill MacLeod, of Brookfield, will serve as committee members for the June 20 and 21 festival in Itasca.

The festival – hosted by the Chicago Scots – will be from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hamilton Lakes, located at Interstate 20 and Thorndale Avenue.

The Scottish Festival and Highland Games will include live Celtic music from the Midwest Pipe Band Championship, Highland Dance contests, Rugby games, hurling contests and more.

In the spirit of Scottish tradition, the festival will also have a Heavy Athletics exhibition performance featuring the Caber Toss – consisting of flipping 20-foot tree trunks – a 22-pound Hammer Throw, the Sheaf Toss – flipping a bale of hay over a high bar – and the Clachnert – where a 16-pound river stone is thrown.

Ticket prices for the festival are $12 for adults June 20 and children 12 years old and under get in free. June 21 prices will be $20 for adults, free for children 2 years old and under and $5 for children 3 to 12 years old.

Parking will be $5 a day, or $8 for a two-day parking pass.
