IC Catholic senior forward Grace Vitek is the only senior on the Knights' soccer team, but has carried the team. She scored a goal and had two assists in the regional final win against neighbor school Timothy Christian and helped the Knights advance to a sectional final with a blowout win against Instituto Health Science Charter on Wednesday. Vitek, this week's Oak Trust Credit Union Athlete of the Week, talked with Suburban Life sports reporter Dan Santaromita after the win against Timothy.
What does it mean to be a regional champion as a senior?
It's awesome. We worked hard for this all season, so it feels great.
You beat Timothy Christian 1-0 on March 27. What was different this time around?
I don't think it was necessarily easier. It's always just a close game between them and us. It's just about the chances that we have and finishing them off.
You didn't play with IC when the team won a sectional last year. Are you trying to recreate that as part of the team this year?
I was focusing on club soccer last year and my sophomore year. I wanted to play this year because it was my senior year. I kind of did wish I was a part of it, but what can you do?
