Chicago area under severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Chicago area until 10 p.m. Sunday.

The watch includes Cook, DuPage and Will counties, among others.

A severe thunderstorm warning also is in effect for parts of the Chicago area until 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

The warning was issued in response to a storm system that was spotted near Burr Ridge, moving northeast at 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service alert.

Radar indicates winds could be moving as fast as 60 mph, causing damage to roofs, siding and trees, the alert states. The storm also includes quarter-size hail.

The warning affects towns such as Oak Brook, Hinsdale, La Grange, Westchester, Brookfield, Lyons, Riverside and Berwyn.
