LAKE BARRINGTON – Fire chiefs, Jeff Swanson, of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, and James Arie, of the Barrington Fire Department, made progress toward reaching an automatic-aid agreement between the two organizations during a meeting at the Wauconda Fire District's headquarters May 8.

Effective immediately, both departments have agreed to provide assistance for all structure fires that occur in the district and the village of Barrington, according to an official press release from the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Friday.

Swanson said that discussions on providing assistance for emergency medical calls, technical rescue situations and motor vehicle accidents will continue, adding that a draft agreement may be ready for review by district trustees May 19.

"From the beginning, we have said that we would constantly identify ways to be better," Swanson said. "Our ongoing discussions with Chief Arie and the Barrington Fire Department have provided us with an opportunity to serve our residents more effectively. We remain committed to working with all our neighbors to ensure that we provide the highest levels of fire and emergency medical services."

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District was established in 1940 to serve portions of Barrington Hills, South Barrington, Lake Barrington and Inverness; and portions of unincorporated Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties.
