Community volunteer day taking place at St. John Lutheran Church

DARIEN – The DuPage Academic Achievement Workgroup Network is inviting members of the community to its third annual community volunteer day and outing at 4 p.m. May 17.

The event will begin with a cookout at St. John Lutheran Church located at 7214 South Cass Ave. in Darien.

The workgroup will provide the food and beverages, and guests are asked to bring an appetizer-snack, side dish or dessert, plus one canned good or non-perishable food item to donate to the DuPage African Methodist Episcopal Church's food pantry, according to a news release from St. John Lutheran Church.

An outing to a Kane County Cougars baseball game will follow, and attendees will depart at 5:15 p.m. from St. John Lutheran Church. The cost for those wishing to participate is $10 and includes game ticket, sandwich and a drink and bus transportation.

Those wishing to attend the cookout should RSVP to the church office at 630-969-7987 or info@sjlcdarien.org no later than May 13.
