Steve Cox delivers a pitch for Concordia University's baseball team. Cox did not allow an earned run last season and has yet to give up an earned run this season.

College diamond sports are nearing the postseason and several District 88 products have been displaying their talents on the field. Here’s a selection of how some of the local athletes are doing.

Cox still strong for Concordia

As if one season without allowing an earned run wasn’t good enough, Steve Cox (Willowbrook) is working on a second straight for Concordia University. In 21 1/3 innings so far this spring, Cox has only allowed two unearned runs while striking out 14 batters and racking up eight saves. The Cougars are 33-5 and ranked No. 4 in the latest D3Baseball.com poll.

Buchanan key reliever for No. 1 Webster

Brett Buchanan (Willowbrook) is a part of the Webster University baseball team, which earlier this week moved up to No. 1 in the D3Baseball.com poll. The senior right-hander has been a key reliever his senior year with Webster University. He is in third on the team with 13 appearances and has a 3.57 ERA in 22 2/3 innings pitched. Buchanan has also earned some time at the plate, going 8-for-32 with eight RBIs.

Cericola contributes for Olivet Nazarene

Dave Cericola (Willowbrook) has been a key pitcher for Olivet Nazarene in his freshman season. The right-hander has a 3.67 ERA with a 5-7 record in 56 1/3 innings pitched. His five wins rank second on the team and he is third with 58 strikeouts.

Pelsor producing as pitcher with Carthage softball

Darian Pelsor (Willowbrook) has a 3.39 ERA in her freshman year with Carthage College softball. She has made eight starts and four relief appearances totaling 43 1/3 innings. Pelsor has one complete game and a 3-4 record.

Stars’ starter Mueller making strides

Dominican University junior pitcher Cody Mueller (Addison Trail) has made great strides in the Stars’ starting rotation this season. He has a 3.77 ERA and two complete games in 62 innings on the mound. His ERA is more than two runs lower from when he made nine starts as a sophomore.

Ryan a regular for NCC softball

Taylor Ryan (Willowbrook) has started all 40 games for North Central softball, which is hosting a Division III regional beginning Friday. The senior second baseman is hitting .250 for the Cardinals.

Willowbrook tandem teams up at Loras

Loras College teammates and Willowbrook graduates Danny Fahlgren and Nick Petruzzi have both seen the field for the Duhawks. Fahlgren, a junior catcher, is hitting .238 with a home run and 15 RBIs while starting 35 of 38 games. Petruzzi, a sophomore pitcher, has made two appearances out of the bullpen.
