'Click It or Ticket' mobilization underway in Wheaton

Published: Friday, May 9, 2014 6:36 p.m. CDT

WHEATON – The Wheaton Police Department began increasing its seat belt enforcement efforts Friday as part of the statewide "Click It or Ticket" mobilization, according to a city news release.

The Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety provided the city with a grant for this round of enforcement, which will continue through May 26, in order to boost the state's safety belt use rate and reduce fatalities and injuries.

During that time, officers will operate several "occupant protection enforcement zones," in which uniformed police will be outside their vehicles at several locations. Vehicle occupants found to be unrestrained will be directed to other officers who will issue citations.
