Nazareth’s baseball team picked up two shutouts over the weekend.
Mike Greene pitched four scoreless innings in a 10-0, five-inning win against Latin on Saturday.
Peter Minella pitched five scoreless innings in a 6-0 win against Reavis on Sunday at U.S. Cellular Field.
The Lions got back in the West Suburban Silver title race by taking the first two games of a series against Downers Grove North during the weekend.
LT won the first game 6-5 Friday. John Heilenbach hit a sacrifice fly to score Charlie Harrigan for the winning run in the eighth inning. Sam Cybulski was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
The Lions also won Saturday’s second game on a walkoff with Harrigan hitting a two-out bases-loaded single to score Sam Heilenbach.
The Bulldogs took two out of three from Timothy Christian last week.
RB won the series opener 8-2 with Will Kincanon striking out eight and allowing one earned run. Justin Agne homered in the game.
Connor Berek earned his third conference victory in a 3-2 win in the second game. He struck out seven in a complete game.
Kayla Morrissey had two hits, but the Lions fell to conference leader Oak Park-River Forest 7-2 on Friday.
Downers Grove South beat the Mustangs 13-3 on Friday.
The Lions finished off the consolation bracket at the Naperville Invitational with a 4-0 win against Wheaton Warrenville South and a 2-0 loss to Plainfield North.
Nora Madden scored the only goal in the Friars’ 1-0 win against St. Ignatius on Saturday.
After losing to Downers Grove North 5-0 on Thursday, the Mustangs bounced back with a 7-0 shut out against Kennedy the next day.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
The Lions were fourth at the Wanner Knights Invitational on Friday. Jimmy Rhode, Trevor Edgerton, Brendan Swinehart and Matt Grider teamed up to place second in the 4x400-meter relay.
Ed McCarter, Dan Lupano, Ben Gawthrop and Alex Lima took second in the 4x800.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Grace Cronin was first in the high jump and the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 100 hurdles at the Trevian Girls Invitational at New Trier on Saturday. Olivia Ryan took second in the 800.
BOYS WATER POLO
The Lions went 2-2 at a tournament at Stevenson over the weekend with wins against New Trier and Palatine and losses against Naperville Central and Fenwick.
The Friars went 3-1 at Stevenson, losing to Loyola 7-6 and beating Oak Park-River Forest 9-5, Palatine 20-7 and Lyons Township 11-5.
GIRLS WATER POLO
LT defeated Waubonsie Valley 9-6 on Thursday.
Peter Pribyl Pierdinock was fourth in the singles draw at Brother Rice’s Crusader Classic. RB was sixth out of eight teams.
The Lions placed fourth at the West Suburban Silver meet Saturday.
Erika Sterner won No. 3 singles to help the Bulldogs place fifth at the Independent Conference meet.
It was back-to-back wins for the Roadrunners, beating Lane Tech 13-8 on April 30 and St. Francis 9-8 on Friday.
LT snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Stevenson 20-11 Saturday.
The Roadrunners beat the Eagles co-op 13-9 Thursday.
