La Grange board passes restrictions to feeding feral cats, improvements to train station
LA GRANGE – The village trustees approved three ordinances during the village board meeting April 28.
The approved items included sidewalk projects along the 700 block of 12th Avenue, a new code regarding the feeding of feral animals and a change to the renovation project at Stone Avenue train station.
Here's a recap of the meeting's discussion:
Proposed sidewalks along the 700 block of 12th Avenue:
Trustee Jim Palermo explained the proposal for establishing sidewalks along the 700 block of 12th Avenue. Palermo said there will be a public hearing regarding the project July 14, followed by a 60-day objection period. The project involves a $50,000 tax proposal – which stems from 50 percent of the shared cost of the $100,000 project. If the timeline continues without any road bumps, Palermo said he anticipates engineering to be completed by August with the final board approval in October.
La Grange code regarding feral animals:
The second ordinance passed during the meeting was in favor of amending the village's code for abandoned, feral and wild animals. Trustee Mark Kuchler explained that food placed outside for feral animals must be three feet above ground and emptied daily. The ordinance also limits three feral cat shelters on one piece of property with a limit of nine cats at a time, according to Kuchler. He said he urges residents to work with Triple R Pets to ensure they're handling feral cats in the most humane way.
Stone Avenue Train Station renovation project:
The final ordinance approved involved changes being made to the Stone Avenue train station renovation project. Trustee Jeff Nowak said over the past several months significant progress for the project has been made and it's still scheduled to be completed by May 31. The approved item calls for additional landscape and various improvements. Nowak said the village won't have to cover any additional expenditures.
The village board meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at Village Hall, 53 S. La Grange Road. Meeting agendas and minutes can be found online at www.villageoflagrange.com.
