Softball roundup: Bats wake up for Wheaton Warrenville South

Published: Wednesday, May 7, 2014 2:05 p.m. CDT

LOMBARD – The offense hasn’t always been there this season for Wheaton Warrenville South’s softball team, but the Tiger bats showed up in a big way Monday.

The Tigers totaled 16 hits in a 13-5 win against Glenbard East, with Maggie Graham going 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.

“She’s reliable,” coach Jeff Pawlak said. “She’s so consistent. She’s zoned in. She battles. She’s such an asset to have as a senior. She just works against all pitching.”

Jenna Pape had an RBI single in the sixth inning and a bases-clearing triple in the seventh to give her four RBIs on the day. The Tigers scored nine runs in the final two innings.

“Our bats haven’t really clicked this year,” Pawlak said. “We had some girls who have been working really hard, and it was nice to see them get a couple hits and hit some balls hard.”

Graham also came up big Tuesday as she hit a two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give South a 3-2 win against conference leader Naperville Central.

Wheaton North

With pitchers Jessalyn Kieta and Amanda Mordacq combining to allow just three hits, Wheaton North picked up a DVC win with a 5-1 decision Saturday against Glenbard East.

The Falcons scored all of their runs in the first three frames. Kelly Thornton was 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI, and Maggie Will was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

On Monday, the team was no-hit in a 10-0 loss against Glenbard North.

West Chicago

The Wildcats were held to two hits in a 2-0 loss Monday against Oswego East.

St. Francis

The Spartans defeated Wheaton Academy 6-4 April 30 behind a five-run fourth inning.

Alyssa Dittrich was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored, and Amanda Imbrogno and Carley Pasquale each had two hits. Janie Smith drove in two runs, and Maggie Remus allowed no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Wheaton Academy

Scoring 11 runs in the first inning, the Warriors defeated Walther Christian 18-2 Monday. Gina Graff was 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored, and Marissa Gagliano went 3-for-3 with four runs scored.

Jessica Bosse and Angela Graff had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
