Police respond to attempted robbery in Darien, patrol activity increased

DARIEN – A 17-year-old girl was approached Wednesday near the Darien Jimmy Johns by a male demanding the victim's cell phone and purse.

The attempted robbery occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on the walking path between Abbey Court and the back of the strip mall by Jimmy Johns, 2445 75th St.

The girl was approached from behind by a black male described to be about 20-years-old, 5 feet 8 inches and 150 pounds wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, according to a news release from the Darien Police Department.

After the demands, the man fled west without the purse or phone. There was no threat of force or weapon implied, and no physical contact was made. Police checked the area and the male was not located, according to the release.

Authorities have increased patrol activity in the area, according to the release.
