Baseball roundup: Tigers salvage series finale against Naperville Central

NAPERVILLE – Wheaton Warrenville South salvaged the final game of its series against Naperville Central with a 7-4 come-from-behind win Monday.

Trailing 4-0 after four innings, the Tigers scored seven runs in the fifth.

Ben Flores was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Austin Polezoes and Nate Roskuszka each had two hits and one RBI. Brett Struebing tossed another complete game, allowing five hits while striking out 10.

WWS had dropped the first two games to the Redhawks, falling 3-1 Saturday and 8-3 a day earlier.

Baylor Holmes allowed one earned run in six innings of work Saturday while Connor Ostrander drove in the lone run.

Flores was 3-for-4 with two runs scored Friday, and Ostrander and Justin Kelly each had RBIs.

The Tigers beat Naperville North 4-3 April 30. Kelly was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Holmes and Robert Zablock also drove in runs. Struebing threw a complete game, striking out six while allowing six hits.

St. Francis

A five-run sixth inning propelled Marian Central Catholic to a 6-4 win Monday against the Spartans.

St. Francis had 10 hits in the contest with Jason Sullivan, Brett Whelton, Chris Smith and Will Purdom having two hits apiece. Jack Ciombor was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Wheaton Academy

The Warriors were held to three hits in a 4-1 loss Monday against Aurora Christian. Chris Johnson drove in the lone run with a homer, and Jake Lindstedt and Michael Moses each had a single.

Brett Albaugh allowed two earned runs in seven innings, yielding five hits while striking out four.

On Saturday, with Austin Ebeling tossing a complete game, the squad pulled out a 2-1 win against St. Edward. Ebeling allowed five hits while striking out eight. Offensively, Tanner Philipps was 2-for-3, and Luke Kram had a hit and RBI.
