Golf outing tops $1,600 for NMCRS

A gradual warmth greeted about 70 golfers at Willowe Glen for the first Active Duty fundraiser golf outing.

The outing raised $1,641 for its beneficiary - The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. That was $600 more than organizers expected.

TEAM NAVFAC, with Lt. Doug Knotts, Lt. Ray Fletcher, Daniel John and Chris Miller, USO Great Lakes Center director, who shot a 54. Jack Walsh won the Longest Putt on hole No. 9, the Closest to the Pin was won by Knotts and Blaize Pearson took the longest drive.

“The sun came through just as many of the golfers did to support our sailors and Marines. Thanks to everyone who came out,” said Lt. Jaime Ochoa, co-organizer of the outing.

The coveted Best Outfit trophy went to MM1 Gabriel Loop, PS2 Christopher Dittmer, SN Daniel Unseth and SN Errol Maynard.They looked like something out of the Three Stooges short “Three Little Beers,” which produced the popular Golf With Your Friends poster that is still sells.

The team that finished in last place was Team NAVSUP, anchored by Lt. Anthony Montgomery, Allen Munoz, Sandy Harris and Dan McLoed.
