Park district promotes healthy living for seniors

WESTMONT – The Westmont Park District is offering a variety of spring and summer programs intended to help seniors remain fit and active.

The Westmont Park District Senior Center is debuting a free trial of its new class, Ageless Grace, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. May 7.

Ageless Grace is a fun, creative, playful, co-ed exercise program practiced to vibrant music while seated in a chair, according the a news release from the park district.

The program is composed of 21 simple tools designed to promote comfort and ease, including joint lubrication, muscle strengthening, brain exercises, flexibility training, hand-eye coordination activities, and breathing and balance workouts, according to the release.

Each of the 21 simple tools work the organs and systems of the body, activating the five areas of the brain and addressing a primary factor that causes physical aging and/or cognitive decline, according to the release.

After the free trial, Ageless Grace will run from May 14 to June 18. The six-week program costs $36.

The Westmont Park District also is encouraging seniors to hit the links.

The park district’s senior golf league will be held at Twin Lakes Golf Course, 400 W. 59th St., and is open to people ages 55 and over of all golf ability levels. The league, which began Monday, runs though Sept. 30 and costs $45 to join.

The enrollment fee includes a banquet and two complimentary rounds of golf. Green fees are $11 for Westmont residents and $13 for nonresidents. The final day to sign up is June 22.

Tee times run throughout Monday and Tuesday at Twin Lakes Golf Course.
