WHEATON – The Wheaton Warrenville South bass fishing team was awarded the Illinois High School Team of the Year Award last week by The Fishing & Outdoor Radio Show.
The honor was given to the squad based on their tournament success and their efforts promoting the lifelong activity of fishing in their school and community.
The team was honored in a surprise ceremony hosted by Principal David Claypool. The hosts of The Fishing & Outdoor Radio Show surprised the team with more than $5,000 in fishing poles and equipment donated by Plano, Frabill and other sponsors.
Warrenville Mayor David Brummel was on hand to read a proclamation honoring the team for its state runner-up finish in 2013, its 2014 conference championship and the 2014 Team of the Year Award.
On Friday, the Tigers advanced to the IHSA state meet after placing second at the Busse Woods sectional with a catch that totaled 8 pounds, 4 ounces.Team members include Mark Larson, Jon Stetlik, Nick Trusso, Qarin Johnnic and Logan Passi.
