Hinsdale Central’s boys volleyball team suffered its first West Suburban Silver loss of the season in Tuesday’s 25-23, 18-25, 25-20 loss against Glenbard West.
The Red Devils were coming off a 3-1 showing at Saturday’s Minooka invite, where they defeated Neuqua Valley, Plainfield North and Plainfield South.
After defeating Wheaton North 1-0 on April 24 in their first game at the Naperville Invitational, the Red Devils lost 1-0 against Fremd in tourney action the next day.
The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 8-0 in a West Suburban Gold game on Tuesday.
That win came on the heels of a 3-2 win against Glenbard West on April 24.
Tess Sobol scored twice of assists by Cassie Jensen and Allisa Lokanc and Sarah Warren scored a goal in the win against West.
Alyssa Doneske’s two-run home run gave the Red Devils a dramatic 10-9, 13-inning win against Glenbard West April 25.
The game went to extra innings tied 6-6. West had broken a 7-7 tie with two runs in the top of the 13th. Annemarie Tracey doubled and scored on Faith Koffron’s single, then Koffron came home on Doneske’s blast.
Koffron had three RBIs, Annie Bruns laced four hits, and Bruns, Tracey, Koffron and Doneske all scored twice.
The Hornets put an end to a nine-game losing streak with a 12-8 win against Morton on April 23.
Morgan Majcen, Holli Jones and Mackenzie Kern each drove in three runs. Majcen and Abby Overman scored three runs apiece, and Andra Morris tripled and scored a run.
Hinsdale South/Hinsdale Central
The Hornets and Red Devils both competed at South’s ABCD invite on Saturday.
South scored 52 points and finished second overall, just ahead of Prospect (51 points) and just behind Stevenson (54).
Central tallied 43 points and finished in fourth place.
The Red Devils won their own Jay Kramer invite rather comfortably, tallying 30 team points to finish ahead of Highland Park and New Trier (19 points apiece).
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Anne Zaher had the Red Devils best finish at Saturday’s Glenbard West invite as she placed second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:14.89.
The Hornets’ 4x800-meter relay (10:21.48) won its race, the 4x400 relay placed third (4:22.59) and Tori Salazar was fourth in the 800 (2:32.16) at South’s own invite April 23.
Alivia Blumenstein (long jump) and Jess Hawken (triple jump) earned third-place finishes.
The Red Devils won 15-7 against Lake Forest on Monday.
BOYS WATER POLO
The Red Devils gave highly-regarded Oak Park-River Forest a test before falling 10-7 on Tuesday.

GYMNASTICS: Hinsdale Central's boys team will be in the hunt for the title when it competes in the West Suburban Silver meet at Downers Grove North at 6 p.m. today.
BASEBALL: The front runners in the West Suburban Gold, Downers Grove South and Hinsdale South start a three-game series at 4:30 p.m. today in Downers Grove.
GIRLS SOCCER: After finishing up at the Naperville Invitational over the weekend, Hinsdale Central hits the road to face Oak Park-River Forest at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
