Several local police stations will serve as drop-off locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday during the National Drug Take Back Day.

The event, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency, is a nationwide initiative allowing people to safely dispose of unused or unwanted prescription narcotics. The program works to avoid prescription drug abuse, accidental ingestion and environmental contamination.

Following the event, all police departments in DuPage County will coordinate with the DEA at the Lombard Police Department, 235 E. Wilson Ave. to dispose of the collected drugs.

Drugs can be dropped off at the Villa Park Police Department, 40 S. Ardmore Ave.; the Glen Ellyn Police Department, 535 Duane St.; the Elmhurst Police Department, 125 E. 1st St.; the Addison Police Department, 131 W. Lake St.; and the Glendale Heights Police Department, 300 E. Fullerton Ave.
