Carol Stream woman pleads guilty to stealing more than $10,000 from Wheaton North Boosters
A Carol Stream woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $10,000 from the Wheaton North Booster Club, which she once served as president, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
From May 2006 through May 2011, Dorothy “Dee” Horky, 58, was president of the Booster Club, allowing her to have a club American Express card with her name on it, a State's Attorney's Office news release stated.
In November 2012, club officials noticed inconsistencies in their books and alerted the Wheaton Police Department. An investigation by the Wheaton Police Department, assisted by the State’s Attorney’s Office, revealed Horky falsely told officials at the Booster Club that she had destroyed the American Express card issued to her following the expiration of her term, according to the release.
The investigation discovered that beginning in July 2012 through November 2012, Horky took cash advances totaling $10,985.53 against the club's American Express credit card previously issued to her, the release stated. Horky then withdrew money totaling $9,838.32 from a Booster Club bank account and transferred that money to pay for the cash advances she had taken on the credit card, according to the release.
On March 7, 2013, a $5,000 arrest warrant was issued for Horky. Four days later, Horky turned herself in to authorities and posted bond, the release stated.
Horky entered a blind plea of guilty Thursday to one count of theft over $10,000, a Class 2 Felony, according to the release. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 29.
