Round Lake family needs vehicle to help father access chemo treatments
ROUND LAKE – In 2010, Mauro II Lopez was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. While receiving chemotherapy and radiation, he continued to work to support his family. Lopez worked at Allstate Insurance in Northbrook. But, in March 2014, his cancer medication caused him to suffer a massive stroke, rendering him paralyzed on the right side of his body. Since the stroke, Lopez has been powerless to work.
Because he could no longer work, he was unable to continue making payments on the family van and it was repossessed.
The family no longer has any means of transportation to get him to his chemotherapy treatment.
The Lopez family is reaching out to friends and neighbors for assistance in purchasing a new vehicle to help Lopez receive access to treatment.
The close knit family, including wife Gaby Lopez, son Mauro III Lopez, who will be returning to his Army training in June, and daughters Doanea Lopez and Elena Lopez are asking for the public's help.
"Our church is helping us out with rent, but we really need money for a car," said Gaby Lopez.
Doanea Lopez said, "We are all praying everything turns out all right."
The family has set up a fundraising site at www.gofundme.com. Once on the site enter "family needs car to get dad to doctor" to read more of their story and/or make donations.
