Wheaton North’s baseball team opened its series against Lake Park with a 4-1 victory Saturday.
Ben Cary put forth a dominant pitching effort, striking out eight while yielding only three hits over seven innings. Greg Sells went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense. Jacob Taschetta contributed a triple and RBI and Zach Leander produced a double and run scored.
Wheaton North took two of three games from Naperville North after a 12-3 win on April 23. Greg Scandora was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, Michael Mannix went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Andrew Slivinski contributed three RBIs and two runs scored. Charles Robin was the winning pitcher, striking out five in six innings.
Wheaton Warrenville South
Wheaton Warrenville South’s baseball team continued its strong play of late with a 3-1 win against Naperville North Saturday.
Connor Ostrander gave the Tigers a strong effort on the mound as the senior allowed five hits while striking out four in a complete-game effort. He also helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Justin Kelly, Austin Polezoes and Robert Zablock all had two hits while Eric Giltz drove in a run.
The Tigers had closed out a three-game sweep against West Aurora with a 2-1 win in eight innings on April 23. Chris Simpson allowed just four hits while striking out six in a complete-game effort. Kelly and Baylor Holmes drove in runs for the Tigers.
The Spartans swept a doubleheader against IMSA Saturday by scores of 11-1 and 11-0.
In the opener, Jason Sullivan, Chris Smith Zach Prociuk, Jack Ciombor and Andrew Kinzler all had two hits and Zach Palrang struck out eight in five innings on the mound. In the nightcap, Reid Connolly allowed two hits while striking out eight in six innings while Jake Radel went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
On Friday, the team beat Oswego East 4-2. Sullivan was 2-for-2.
St. Francis defeated St. Edward 11-1 in six innings on April 24 behind an 11-hit attack.
Christian Kuzemka was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and William Purdom was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Matt Kelly and Ryan Hodgett combined to allow just one hit in the team’s 1-0 win over Wheaton Academy on April 22.
Behind a two-hitter from Brett Albaugh, the Warriors defeated Kaneland 3-1 Saturday.
Albaugh struck out three in a complete-game effort while Jake Lindstedt and Luke Kram both drove in runs.
The Warriors scored two runs in the seventh and then pushed the winning run across in the eighth to defeat Guerin 5-4 on April 24. Kram was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs and Albaugh also drove in two runs.
Behind a four run sixth frame, the Warriors knocked off Glenbard West 8-6 April 23. Tanner Philipps was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Austin Ebeling, Kram and Brandon Valente also contributed doubles. Kram was also the winning pitcher with Lindstedt notching the save.
