Published: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 2:28 p.m. CDT

WESTERN SPRINGS – Families from around the area are invited out to an old-fashioned afternoon of family activities during Western Springs’ MayFest.

Hosted by the Western Springs Historical Society, the new biennial event was designed to highlight the community spirit and the village.

From 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Tower Green, 914 Hillgrove Ave., the event will feature old-fashioned entertainment, carnival games, food and crafts.

Keeping the theme in mind, the fest will have entertainment such as unicyclists, a juggler, fiddler and dance ensemble, along with Maypole dancers. Carnival games will include a milk can toss, a scavenger hunt and a bucket drop.

Preschool through fourth-grade students also will be able to enter a coloring contest during the festivities.

While the entertainment is free, tickets for the games, crafts and food can be purchased at the event.
