LA GRANGE – A La Grange-based design firm was selected to create and design a room featured at the Chicago International Art, Antique and Jewelry Show beginning Thursday.
The show – which also will feature three other design firms – is scheduled for Thursday through Monday at Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, 600 E. Grand Ave., Chicago.
Interiors by Mary Susan, a design and art studio at 22 Calendar Ave., will combine art, antiques and jewelry from the show’s exhibitors to transform a designated 36-by-10-foot space.
“I feel very privileged to be able to utilize beautiful things from around the country to create a beautiful space,” founder Mary Susan Bicicchi said.
For her room, Bicicchi will create a Cosmopolitan Lounge. She said the lounge will have a mixed metal look with a zebra rug and other antiques.
“You’ve got this big space and you’re going blind shopping to put together a room,” Bicicchi said. “I’ve ordered these [antiques] that I’ve never seen before.”
Bicicchi said she tried to not be so serious about the room and have fun with it.
“You can still be cool and use the antiques,” Bicicchi said. “I’m trying to bring an edge to it and attract younger collectors.”
Looking ahead at the show, Bicicchi said she’s hoping to gain more design knowledge and potential clients.
“I’m always wanting to continue my education,” Bicicchi said. “And to hopefully connect with new people and have the privilege of doing their homes.”
Interiors by Mary Susan works on anything from single rooms to redesigning a whole house, according to Bicicchi. She said the 23-year-old firm has designed homes all over the country – from the Chicago suburbs to Hawaii, Florida, Cape Cod and more.
