Letter: What changed?

Published: Saturday, April 19, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

How in the world can the indoor shooting range built for the Kane Country Sheriff’s Office cost $2 million, of which almost half is from cost overruns?

I would think that such a facility would consist of a pretty basic building design. And because it is a public building funded with taxpayer dollars, there should be no extravagance in the design or furnishings.

So, what items were responsible for the $800,000 construction cost overrun? What could have possibly either been omitted entirely from the proposal or changed significantly after construction began?

If this were a business, the people responsible would most likely be looking for a new job. But since this is a government project, nobody will be held accountable and the last word said about this will be “Oops!”
