Pine Hollow Open starts Downers Grove Founders Day festivities

Pine Hollow Open starts DG Founders Day activities

The Pine Hollow Open will take place at 11 a.m. April 26 at Downers Grove Golf Club. The event starts a week of events for the Downers Grove Historical Society's Founders Day celebration.

The Pine Hollow Open is a 9-hole tournament for players ages 18 and older. The entry fee is $18 for Downers Grove Park District residents and $21 for non-residents.

Players are encouraged to enter by April 18.

Chicago Bears youth camps coming to area

Several non-contact football camps run by the Chicago Bears and led by professional coaches will make stops in the suburbs this summer.

The five-day camps will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are for kids ages 6 to 14. There will be comprehensive skills camps for kids ages 6 to 14 and accelerated skills camps for kids ages 9 to 14.

The camps cost $399 with a $95 deposit required.

Dates and locations of local camps are:

Carol Stream: Fountain View Recreation Center, June 23 to 27.

Elmhurst: Faganal Hall at Elmhurst College, June 23 to 27.

Naperville: All Saints Catholic Academy, June 23 to 27.

Geneva: Geneva Middle School North, July 21 to 25.

Glen Ellyn: Park View Elementary School, July 21 to 25.

DGS summer camp registration now open

Registration for Downers Grove South's sports camps is current open.

Several sports will be hosting summer camps, including baseball, boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, lacrosse, boys and girls soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, boys and girls volleyball and wrestling.

Roadrunners tryouts start in May

Player evaluations for the 2014 Roadrunners Soccer Club season start May 11.

Tryouts are for players ages five to 18 and will take place primarily at McCollum Park in Downers Grove with a few tryouts at Doerhoefer Park in Downers Grove. Players trying out should wear shin guards and bring their own soccer ball and water, plus $20 for a training shirt that all players get to keep.

There will also be a preseason open house from 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 6 at the Downers Grove Recreation Center on Belmont Road in Downers Grove.
