Prep roundup: York soccer bounced from PepsiCo Showdown

York’s girls soccer team was knocked out in the first round of the Pepsi Showdown on Saturday, falling to Lake Forest 4-1. The Dukes bounced back with a 5-1 win against Lincoln-Way North on Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

IC Catholic

The Knights won a pair of games over the weekend. Grace Vitek has been on fire offensively, leading IC. She has nine goals in her last four matches. In the Knights’ most recent game, she scored a pair of goals and added an assist in a 5-0 victory against Elmwood Park on Saturday. Dominique Lotz also scored twice and Hannah Hartnett had a goal and an assist.

The day before Tessa Langon and Hartnett each scored in a 2-1 win against Aurora Central Catholic.

Timothy Christian

After beating Westminster Christian 3-2 on Saturday, the Trojans returned home to take on Glenbard South in a Metro Suburban Conference game Tuesday. The visiting Raiders won, 3-0. Timothy’s record is 2-3-2.

BOYS WATER POLO

York

The Dukes headed to Lyons Township for a tough tournament over the weekend and went 0-3. Losses came to strong programs in Loyola, the host Lions and Stevenson. Waubonsie Valley also knocked off York 14-10 Tuesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

York

The Dukes defended their home court Saturday by winning the Third Annual City-Suburban Challenge. York defeated Belleville East, Schurz, Von Steuben and Glenbrook South to win the championship without losing a set the entire day. The Dukes later fell to Downers Grove North 25-23, 26-24 on Tuesday to fall to 0-2 in the West Suburban Silver.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

IC Catholic

Freshman Jordan Rowell was a standout at the Gary Johnson Bulldog Relays hosted by Riverside Brookfield on Saturday. He won the long jump and was second in the 100-meter dash and the high jump. Sam Rose, Luke Calles, Randy Leslie and Aaron Taylor teamed up to take fourth in the 4x100 relay.

BOYS TENNIS

York

The Dukes remained undefeated in dual meets after winning against Maine South on April 11 and going 3-0 at the Hersey Invite on Saturday.

At Hersey, York beat Fremd for the first time in four years. Top singles player Brendan Peterson improved to 16-0 on the season.

BOYS GYMNASTICS

York

Sam Bode was fifth in the all-around at the Anthony Canino Invitational hosted by Hinsdale Central on April 11. York was sixth at the 10-team invite. Bryce Simpson also had a solid meet by taking eighth in the all-around.

Girls soccer: Timothy Christian hosts its own tournament starting 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
