Oak Brook appoints new fire chief

OAK BROOK – Barry Liss was named the Oak Brook fire chief April 8 in a special Board of Trustees meeting.

Liss was appointed by Oak Brook Village President Gopal Lalmalani and received unanimous village board approval, according to a news release from the Village of Oak Brook.

Liss currently serves as the deputy fire chief of the Skokie Fire Department with over 33 years of experience working though various ranks established in a fire department.

He has a master's degree in public safety administration from Lewis University, a bachelor's degree in fire science management from Southern Illinois University and an associate's degree in applied science and fire science, according to the release.

Oak Brook Fire Chief Tom McEllin announced his retirement in November 2013. He has been employed as fire chief since 2009 and was initially hired by the village as a firefighter/paramedic in 1981.

Liss will begin with the Village of Oak Brook on May 15.
