Sameera Samreen, 30, of Addison, was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison for stabbing her 3-year-old son in the neck.

ADDISON – A woman formerly from Addison was sentenced to seven years in prison Monday for stabbing her 3-year-old son in the neck, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

Sameera Samreen, 30, pleaded guilty Feb. 6 to one count of aggravated battery to a child, a Class X felony, in front of Judge Blanche Hill Fawell, who also sentenced Samreen Monday, according to the release.

Samreen stabbed her son in the neck with a large kitchen knife at 8:05 p.m. March 31, 2012, at her home in the 900 block of North Rohlwing Road in Addison, the release stated. She originally claimed the boy suffered the injuries when two masked men entered the apartment and attacked Samreen and her son, according to the release.

An investigation revealed Samreen had stabbed her son after she cut her own throat with the knife, the release stated. The boy has since recovered from his injuries.
