ITT expo attracts sailors interested in travel

Sailors and civilians at Naval Station Great Lakes flocked to Port O’Call (Bldg. 140), April 10, for the annual ITT Travel Expo.

More than 30 vendors from the area filled the building and greeted attendees with information on their upcoming events along with special offers.

“We thought this was a great a great opportunity to show sailors everything we offer,” said Nicola Veach, general manager of Rink Side Entertainment Center in Gurnee, Ill. “We hope to see many of them come out and take advantage of our military discounts.”

Along with useful information, guests also took advantage of several prizes donated by the base’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department and vendors at the expo.

“We had a great turnout,” said Bunny Merritt, recreation specialist at ITT. “Everyone was excited for the prizes. We had everything from airline tickets, to gift cards, to hotel stays to give away this year.”

Attendees left the Travel Expo with excitement for the approaching months, and newly made plans to visit many of the attractions the area has to offer.

“I’m glad I made it to the Travel Expo,” said GSE2 Destiny Johnson. “I met a lot of helpful people and I can’t wait to do a lot of this stuff this summer.”
