Race to state track finals is underway for DGN, DGS, Westmont girls track
The outdoor track season is just getting underway as Saturday marked the first day of big outdoor invites for area teams. With that in mind, it’s hard to believe that girls state meets are less than six weeks away (May 22 to 24). Here’s a look at what to expect over those next six weeks for area girls track and field teams.

Stephanie Urbancik sr. 400 800
Outlook: The Trojans are hoping to parlay numerous indoor conference champions into success during the condensed outdoor season. Stephanie Urbancik (800-meter run champion), the 4 x 400 relay (Urbancik anchoring Emma Moravec, Kaitlyn Bonfield and Zayna Jan) and the 4 x 800 relay (Rachel Schuetz, Hannah Henry and Jan in front of Urbancik) were indoor conference champs. Moravec, Grace Marek, Sophie Temple-Wood and Cassidy Santen had indoor all-conference finishes.
North competed in the Homewood-Flossmoor invite on Saturday to open the outdoor season and will host its own Ritter invite at 5 p.m. Thursday. Meets at Lockport (April 25) and Glenbard North (May 2) precede the West Suburban Silver meet on May 8.

Outlook: The Mustangs hosted their own invite Saturday to start the outdoor season and finished fifth in the team standings. Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker won the 100-meter hurdles (16.28) and Michaela Hackbarth was the champ in the 800 run (2:23.74).
Distance events should be a strength with Haley Albers, Abby Kargol and Amanda Thate. None qualified for state last spring but all are coming off solid cross country seasons in the fall. Dixon-Tucker, Hackbarth and Soren Umali will help South score points in the sprint events and sprint relays.
Big meets at Wheaton North (Saturday), Lake Park (April 26) and Wheaton Warrenville South (May 2) lead up to the West Suburban Gold conference meet at South on May 8 and the postseason meets.
Coach: Steve Wolf
Maggie Arndt sr.
Imogene Asa so.
Annie Carlson so.
Elisa Klewinski jr.
Emma May jr.
Outlook: The Sentinels hosted a triangular meet against Wheaton Academy and Elmwood Park on April 8 and have just one other home meet on the schedule, April 22 against Walther Christian and Luther North. After that, the Interstate Eight Conference meet (May 8 at Seneca) and the Class 1A Lisle sectional (May 16) arrive rather quickly.
