Prep roundup: Hinsdale Central baseball takes two from LT

Facing two of the top programs in the state, Hinsdale Central’s baseball team won a three-game series against West Suburban Silver rival Lyons Township before falling against Brother Rice on Tuesday.

The Red Devils had seven hits against Brother Rice but lost 8-3. Mike Johnson had a run and an RBI on a pair of hits. Patrick Sullivan and Mark Dykstra had an RBI apiece while Ryan Haff and Chris Botsoe scored the other runs as Central fell to 4-5.

Central scored four runs in the fourth inning of an 8-2 win against Lyons Township on Monday, the second win in the three-game series. Haff had a two-run triple in the fourth. He scored on a Matt Muellner groundout to cap the inning. Matt Bruns plated Dykstra with the first run of the inning. Botsoe had two runs and two RBIs in the game, and Austin Butler picked up the win with a complete-game effort.

The Red Devils and Lions split Saturday’s doubleheader. Central won the opener 4-3 and LT took the nightcap 5-0.


Hinsdale Central

Annemarie Tracey earned the pitching win in the Red Devils’ 12-2 victory against Morton on Tuesday, and helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles.

Hinsdale South

Holli Jones had a pair of hits and Morgan Majcen and Andra Morris each had a hit, but the Hornets lost to Naperville Central 8-0 on Monday. Mackenzie Kern pitched the whole game for South.


Hinsdale Central

The Red Devils defeated Naperville Central in a dual meet Monday. It was their first action in Illinois this season after they started the season at the DecoTurf Team Championships in Louisville, Ky., in late March.

Hinsdale South

The Hornets were scheduled to face Lyons Township on Wednesday before hosting their own quad meet at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Fremd topped the Hornets 13-2 in a dual meet Monday.

The Hornets were defeated by Shepard 28-26, 25-18 Saturday.
