LYONS – The village of Lyons has announced the retirement of Police Chief Harley Schinker after four years with the village.

According to a news release, the village will soon begin a search for a new chief of police. In the interim, Village Manager Tom Sheahan will assume the duties of the police chief as the village's public safety director until a permanent replacement can be found.

Prior to working in Lyons, Schinker was a police officer in Chicago for 33 years and worked his way up to commander before he retired. Before joining the Lyons Police Department, Schinker served as chief of police in Long Beach, Miss.

He was named chief of police in Lyons in 2010, according to the release.

Village President Chris Getty thanked Schinker in the release for his service and dedication to the community of Lyons, but declined to be interviewed about Schinker's retirement.
