ANTIOCH – Local author Donna Abear discusses the path she took to writing/self-publishing her recent book, "Relatively Criminal: A Memoir," at 7 p.m. April 15 at Antioch Public Library. She will share her challenges, inspirations and tips on finishing and publishing a book. Abear will also have her book available for signing.
“Area residents who have read the book have told me that they felt even more engaged with the story because so many of the [true] events took place locally—in Antioch, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Mundelein, Waukegan, and more,” Abear said.
The book takes readers along on a roller coaster ride of emotions, from laughter to frustration to tears, as she chronicles her relationship with a criminal and drug addict: her little brother.
The author’s name may already be familiar to residents of Lake County, as the writer of the locally popular humor column, “Life’s A Bear," that ran in Shaw Media Newspapers from 1994 to 2001. She later published a book of her “best of” columns, “Mom…You’re Not Naked, Are You?” (Moonshadow Books, 2000). A long-time member of PM&L Theatre and immediate past president, she has also directed and acted in a large number of plays, and is the author of the play “Sprucey, the Blue Christmas Tree” ( I.E. Clark Publications, 1997). When time permits, she and her husband also perform locally in a classic rock band Crow’s Feet.
