Villa Park converting quarterly utility billing to monthly

VILLA PARK – The Village of Villa Park will convert its utility billing from a quarterly system to a monthly basis beginning later this Spring.

The conversion is being implemented to create manageable payment schedules for residents. The monthly bill, which will include water, sewer and garbage, will be divided into two groupings. Group 1 will include residents living north of St. Charles Road and Group 2 will include residents living south of St. Charles Road.

Group 1 will be billed between the 18th and the 20th of the month, and Group 2 will be billed between the 27th and the 29th of the month. The townhomes on North Avenue will be included in Group 2.

Village officials during a Villa Park Village Board meeting March 24 discussed the conversion, and trustees voted against raising the current 5 percent late fee to 10 percent.

“We represent the residents and we get a lot of calls with residents concerned about their bills,” said Villa Park President Deborah Bullwinkel. “We’ve been asking a lot of our residents. People don’t necessarily want to pay late, but a majority of the people may be paying let because they lost their job.”

The conversion will make it easier for residents, who will receive smaller monthly bills, officials said.

The board voted unanimously to approve the first reading of an ordinance to adopt the monthly utility billing system. Trustees are expected to vote on the ordinance following a second reading April 14.

To create a smooth transition, the village is asking residents to note the change to their account number. Individuals who make payments through their bank will need to change their direct payment information to reflect the new account number.
