LA GRANGE – Lyons Township High School’s Art Club will host its annual Raku Fest early this month.

The fest – an interactive, outdoor ceramics firing event – is a celebration of the 300-year-old Japanese kiln-firing process. With help from Carl Mankert, of Chicago Kiln Services, the raku workshop, from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, will have two portable kilns and raku glazes available to students.

During the workshop, at the LTHS South Campus Art Department, about 50 students will apply glaze to their projects and then fire the pieces inside the kiln, which heats to about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lyons Township High School South Campus is located at 4900 S. Willow Springs Road.

For information on the Raku Fest, call the high school at 708-579-6500.
