ROMEOVILLE – A Bolingbrook man died after being struck by a SUV Thursday night.

Gilberto Damian, 33, was walking on Route 53 just north of Enterprise Drive at 11:51 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound blue 1998 Ford Explorer, according to Romeoville Deputy Chief Steve Lucchesi.

"It appears [Damian] was standing in the lane of traffic," Lucchesi said.

The driver, Victor Garcia, 19, of Joliet, refused medical treatment. Damian was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital where he died in the emergency room at 1:50 a.m. Friday, according to the Will County Coroner's office.

The crash remains under investigation and no citations were issued as of Friday. There are no preliminary indications Garcia was using drugs or alcohol, Lucchesi said.
