Wheaton teacher honored by music teachers association

WHEATON – Music teacher Rita Brown of Wheaton was named a fellow by the Music Teachers National Association, according to a news release from the nonprofit.

Brown was recognized at the association's 2014 national conference March 22 to 26 in Chicago.

Her resume includes teaching vocal music in grades one to 12; teaching piano for the preparatory program at Elmhurst College; serving as certification, theory and performance chair of Wheaton's West Suburban chapter; and serving as state theory chairman.

A donation of $1,000 to the association's Foundation Fund was given in her name.
