Glenbard East sophomore forward Brittany Paganucci is off to a hot start to the season. She was first to convert a penalty kick in the semifinal of the Windy City Classic against Fenwick on Wednesday and had three goals and three assists in the first four games of the tournament. The Rams next play Lincoln-Way North in the tournament final at Toyota Park Saturday at noon. Paganucci, this week’s the Oak Trust Credit Union Athlete of the Week, talked with Suburban Life sports reporter Dan Santaromita about her key penalty kick, making the final and the team’s early success.
Have you practiced penalties much in preparation for this tournament?
We’ve been practicing it so I knew what I was doing and where my placement is.
How are you feeling about the team’s hot start?
It’s really exciting, especially coming out in the very beginning because we have a couple new players. It’s different playing with them and I have a new forward playing up top with me so it’s different, but I’m getting used to it.
What’s the transition been like becoming more of the team’s go-to forward?
It’s more my responsibility to make sure we’re organized and to stay calm and not to make silly fouls up top to get us in trouble.
