ELMHURST – The city filed a condemnation suit on property immediately south of the Public Works Facility at 997 S. Riverside Drive last week.

The Public Works Facility has been at 954 S. Riverside Drive since 2000. The 997 S. Riverside Drive property is owned by the children of Victoria Oltean, deceased. The City has had an ordinance to purchase the property in place since 2001 and the property has been a vacant lot since 2008, according to a city news release.

The city previously acquired a 2.62 acre parcel in 2002 on the south side of the Oltean property to act as a buffer between the residences and the Public Works Facility, the release stated.

The city has attempted unsuccessfully to acquire the Oltean property title through negotiation. On March 21, the city filed the condemnation suit to acquire the property for the city's public use related to the Public Works Facility, according to the release.
