LA GRANGE – Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka recently saluted a La Grange Police Department Lieutenant and the Western Springs Police Department Chief of Police at the Women of Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony this month.

Topinka honored Lt. Renee Strasser and Chief Pamela K. Church – along with 11 other law enforcement leaders – at the March 24 ceremony in Chicago.

During the presentations, which came as part of Topinka's office's Women's History Month celebration, Topinka recognized the women for not only entering law enforcement but also for reaching high ranks in their departments.

While honoring the different leaders, Topinka outlined a few of the obstacles women face in the male-dominated culture of law enforcement, such as physical examinations and uniforms designed with men in mind.

Five female cadets from the Rickover Academy Naval Academy were recognized at the ceremony as well.
