Police departments across Illinois recently participated in a special traffic enforcement program targeting driving under the influence and seat belt violations around the St. Patrick's Day holiday.

The traffic enforcement ran from March 13 through 17 in support of the Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaigns. The enforcement campaign was funded by grants through the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.

Law enforcement agencies from around the area had the following results:

Throughout the campaign, the Countryside Police Department issued 17 seat belt citations, four speeding tickets, one uninsured driver citation, and 19 other traffic violations.

As a result of the traffic enforcement, the Westchester Police Department made five arrests for suspended licenses, two DUI arrests, 25 equipment violation citations and 10 seat belt citations.

During the holiday enforcement, the Western Springs Police Department made one DUI arrest, issued 10 speeding citations, made two arrests for driving with suspended or no valid licenses, issued seven driving while holding cellular device citations and issued one seat belt citation.
