Lyons voters approve referendums to abolish term limits, provide tax relief

LYONS – Voters in Lyons decisively approved both referendum questions on their ballot Tuesday, according to preliminary results.

On a referendum question asking voters whether to abolish term limits for the village president, village trustees and village clerk, voters passed the referendum with 62 percent voting in favor.

The referendum approves those currently serving in their position as president, trustee or clerk to run for more than two consecutive terms.

Lyons voters also passed a referendum question that would provide tax relief to homeowners who reside in their homes that will reduce their property taxes over a five-year period to the level in effect when they purchased their home. Voters approved the referendum with nearly 88 percent voting in favor.

A total of 1,261 voters in Lyons cast their ballot Tuesday.
