Wiley takes DuPage County Board District 6 primary, will face Nowak in November

Iraq war veteran, businessman and Bartlett Fire Protection District trustee Kevin Wiley will challenge DuPage County Board District 6 incumbent Laurie Nowak for her seat in November.

Wiley beat out hopefuls Valerie Bruggeman and Erica Lynne Sutton on Tuesday for the District 6 Republicam primary nod, according to preliminary reports from DuPage County, winning his first major election.

A West Chicago resident, Wiley is the director of portfolio management at pharmaceutical benefit management company Catamaran. He is also the operations officer for the 351 Civil Affairs Command, according to his website, and he has served in the Army for more than 30 years.

Wiley did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

"I've been vetted over a 30-year career," he said at a candidate forum in February. "When I came back from Iraq during this last tour, I was unemployed like so many thousands of people are, and I had to work my way back into corporate America, first as a consultant for several years, then my client finally decided he was going to hire me and make the investment in me. Pre-vetted – you know who I am."

Bruggeman also did not respond to requests for comment on election night.

Sutton declined to comment.

Wiley's opponent in November will be Democratic incumbent Nowak, who was elected to her first term at age 25 in 2012. She is one of three Democrats on the board.
