Letter: It's real

Published: Thursday, March 13, 2014 2:20 p.m. CDT

To the Editor:

I really did lose my doctor and my health plan due to exorbitant increases in my premiums due directly to, and I quote, "New fees required by the Affordable Care Act, which are designed to support programs that will stabilize premiums and provide subsidies to qualified individuals to help them purchase coverage."

To all those who think they are somehow immune from this debacle, think again. We will all sit idly by while things happen to others and think, "This will never happen to me." It will. Because it's the law. And though there have been highly publicized examples of entities who are temporarily exempt from this law (until after the elections) who believe they are safe, they are not.

Not only did I not save $2,500 in premiums, mine went up 48 percent. Contrary to an absolute promise from on high, I did lose my doctor and the policy I liked. For me, and many more people every day, it's real.
