CLARENDON HILLS – BNSF Railway Company has notified the village of Clarendon Hills that it will be performing federally mandated upgrades to its signal system from the village of Lisle to the village of Hinsdale.

According to the village of Clarendon Hills, the signal upgrade periods are as follows:

• 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 28.

• 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 29.

• 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 30.

During this period, the crossings should be operational, but there may be brief periods when gates are down as new software is tested. Residents of Clarendon Hills will also be impacted by additional train noise as federal law requires all trains to sound horns whenever workers are present, according to the village's website.

The purpose of the upgrades is to install the Positive Train Control System, which is part of a system wide series of upgrades to enhance safety, according to the village.
