Benet boys basketball dominates Waubonsie Valley for regional title

All three were working for Benet's boys basketball team in Friday's 57-33 win against Waubonsie Valley in the Class 4A Lemont regional championship game. It is Benet's fourth consecutive regional title.

Benet will face Hinsdale Central in an East Aurora sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Redwings (21-7) dominated in every facet of the game and led 46-14 at the end of the third quarter. At that time, Benet center Sean O'Mara had all of his 15 points.

Benet was was 7-of-15 from the field in the first quarter and O'Mara had three blocks. In the third quarter, the Redwings increased their 26-8 halftime lead by shooting 8-of-11.

O'Mara was the game's leading scorer and the only Benet player in double figures. Colin Bonnett tallied nine points, Collin Pellettieri had eight, Dan Sobolewski finished with seven and Liam Nelligan and Dan Roemer tallied six apiece.
